Court declares Prop 8 unconstitutional, “Undercover Princes” features gay royal, tough crowds for Gingrich and Paul, CNN analyst Roland Martin’s anti-gay past, Washington state advances gay marriage as New Jersey schedules vote, and more LGBT headlines.
• Atlanta victory rally set as Prop 8 takes major hit. The ruling that affirms gay Judge Vaughn Walker and his decision that California’s gay marriage ban (top photo) is unconstitutional was passed down by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, and an Atlanta victory rally planned for 4:30 p.m.
• Washington House Committee advances gay marriage bill. With the Senate and governor already on board, Monday’s 7-5 vote by the House Judiciary clears the way for a final vote by the full body, where marriage rights for same-sex couples is expected to sail through into law.
• Just look at CNN Roland Martin’s anti-gay history. Though the pundit claims that one of two offensive Super Bowl tweets were meant to disparage soccer players, not gays, one reporter says a look at the CNN pundit’s past – including comparing homosexuality to alcoholism, support for Tracy Morgan’s anti-gay tirade and thanking beauty contestant Carrie Prejean for her bigotry – tells the real story.
• Gingrich interrupted by gay activists during Minnesota speech. After one heckler was escorted out of the room, another stood up and took over. An audience member shoved the second protestor. Oh, and Ron Paul was glitter-bombed in Minneapolis (middle photo).
• School district fires back on Rolling Stone bullying story. An official with the Anoka-Henepin district in Minneapolis, which has seen more than its share of gay teen suicides smack in the middle of Michele Bachmann land, says the Rolling Stone exposé was a “brutal and distorted attack” on the district and is inaccurate.
• New Jersey Asssembly schedules gay marriage vote. The leader of the New Jersey Assembly announced Monday that a bill which would allow gay marriage in the state would be put to a vote next week, as Democratic leaders continued to wrangle the support needed to ensure passage and opponents work on a voter referendum to overturn it if passed.
• “Undercover Princes” features gay royal’s search for love. The new reality show that puts princes among everyday people in a “Coming To America” moment will include India’s Crown Prince Manvendra Singh Gohil of Rajpipla (bottom photo), who talks about coming out six years ago at the age of 42. The show airs Tuesday night on TLC.
