When For the Kid in All of Us throws a party, they go big. More than 4,000 people attended the 8th Annual Toy Party & Silent Auction on Dec. 5, bringing with them in excess of 4,500 toys and gift cards and dishing out an additional $37,000 at the silent auction. Organizers announced the results on Wednesday.

“It’s another banner year,” Jorge Esteban, For the Kid president, says in a prepared statement. “Each year, our board of directors and countless volunteers are amazed at the results from the Toy Party & Silent Auction.”

Attendance at this year’s event matched that of the 2009 rendition, though the number of donated toys and gift cards fell a bit under the 5,000 collected a year ago. Proceeds from the silent auction nearly doubled from a year ago, jumping from about $20,000 in 2009 to $37,000 this year. The event raises cash and toys for 20 organizations with the LGBT ones including AID Atlanta, CHRIS Kids, Jerusalem House and YouthPride.

“While the economy is still recovering, a number of children and families are going without this season. We are very proud that For the Kid in All of Us—which has no paid staff—is able to provide some joy and happiness for children who would otherwise have nothing to celebrate during the holiday season,” Esteban says.
