Atlanta mulls impact of its ‘boring’ nightlife as hospitality suffers
By Project Q Atlanta
Here’s a news story rife with irony.
The city of Atlanta, mired in a budget deficit and hurting to keep its hospitality industry afloat during a recession, now says its lacks a nightlife attractive enough to keep out-of-town guests coming back. To be completely accurate, it’s the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau telling folks that downtown needs an after-hours component.
Kind of ironic, since it was the current City Hall administration, Buckhead business leaders and others—including a few Midtown residents bordering on homophobic and racist—that shuttered over the last several years much of what used to be a vibrant and fun nightlife in the city. Now, those actions are coming to haunt them as convention-goers, which help feed the hospitality industry key to Atlanta’s economy, are turning to places with better 24/7 options.

Social Tuesdays goes casual at Lindbergh
By Project Q Atlanta
Mix a little wine, some flatbreads and refined casual dining. What you get is another fun evening of cocktails, conversation and connections otherwise known as Social Tuesdays.
The networking group, in its 11th week, stopped at Urban Flats in Lindbergh City Center on Piedmont Avenue for its Dec. 16 gathering. It’s the second time Social Tuesdays camped at Lindbergh; the first came Oct. 7 when they hit Tongue & Groove.

Bucks swap scrums for drag in annual benefit
By Project Q Atlanta
The Atlanta Bucks Rugby Football Club dropped its uniforms for drag on Dec. 6 for a good cause.
The fourth rendition of the Miss Ruck & Maul pageant benefitted the Bucks and Jerusalem House. It was a way for the Bucks to show off their softer side, since the club finished its fall season in late November.

Social Tuesdays finds a little meat downtown
By Project Q Atlanta
The weather was a little too frightful for a return to the rooftop deck, but Maxim Prime still delivered a fun evening for Social Tuesdays this week.
The group and its weekly offering of cocktails, conversation and connection ventured downtown on Tuesday, a return trip to the steakhouse that hosted them Oct. 14. The plush surroundings of the restaurant inside the Glenn Hotel served as a nice alternative to the rooftop deck that provided the setting in October.

Social Tuesdays finds perfezione at Dolce
By Project Q Atlanta
If it’s Tuesday night, it must be Social Tuesdays. And the gay and lesbian social group rang in December this week with an evening at Dolce in Atlantic Station.
The Italian restaurant and lounge delivers the flavor of old world Italy with a sophisticated atmosphere and attendees took full advantage of half price menu items just for the occasion. Perfezione.

Social Tuesdays gets ‘Luckie’ downtown
By Project Q Atlanta
Social Tuesdays cruised into downtown Atlanta this week and got “Luckie.“
That’s “Luckie” as in the new Luckie Marietta District remaking a once blighted section of Marietta Street running from the CNN Center into West Midtown. It’s now filling with condos, refurbished buildings and nightlife, including Wine Loft.
The upscale wine bar hosted the gay nightlife event on Nov. 25, offering more than 90 wines by the glass and 230 by the bottle. The venue opened recently and offers an upbeat and contemporary atmosphere. Even better when the weather allows is an expansive room that opens onto a large patio overlooking Marietta and the up-and-coming district.

Popular cafe hosts social group
By Project Q Atlanta
Social Tuesdays went “tried and true” this week by stopping in at the popular Gilbert’s Cafe in Midtown.
The intimate space at the Mediterranean cafe provided an ideal backdrop for the seventh week of the gay and lesbian networking and social evening. Gilbert’s has been a Midtown mainstay since 2000. The group moves to a different hot spot each Tuesdays beginning at 7 p.m.
